The Hayes Block was built by Charles
H. Hayes, one of Haverhill’s most
influential businessmen of the time in
his efforts to promote the
development of the city’s industrial
base.
The building was constructed in
two phases, 1894 and 1911, and
with his enlightened visions for the
growth of the city, his own business
prospered. The building is adjacent
to the Washington Street Shoe
District and served as a box factory
for the packing of shoes.
